Ehlanzeni TVET College recently hosted a two-day plenary for its Student Support Services team, held at the Mashishing and Mthimba campuses on November 13–14, 2024. This strategic gathering aimed to evaluate the college’s progress over the past year and establish actionable objectives for 2025, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and student well-being.
Day One: Focus on Collaborative Planning
Day one commenced at the Mashishing Campus, with a welcoming address by Miss C. Joubert, Acting Campus Manager. Miss V. Sikota, Student Support Manager, outlined the plenary’s objectives, emphasizing the importance of collaborative planning to enhance service delivery. A key highlight of the day was the discussion on the 2025 Student Representative Council (SRC) elections, led by Mr. O. Shongwe, Chairperson of the College Electoral Committee. Proposals for improving the election process included implementing advanced security measures and adopting earlier election timelines to ensure efficiency.
Ms. Tsela, Chairperson of the Sports Committee, presented the 2025 college sports calendar, underscoring the importance of engaging external stakeholders as potential sponsors. Moreover, she advocated for building strong relationships with service providers and, in addition, proposed introducing mandatory student registration for participation in sporting events. Consequently, this approach aims to foster a culture of accountability and inclusivity.
Day Two: Aligning Strategies with Institutional Goals
Day two, held at the Mthimba Campus, was initiated by Mr. Mnisi with an inspiring welcome. Mr. Mathebula, Academic Support Coordinator, provided an overview of the agenda, focusing on aligning strategies with institutional priorities. Reflecting on the theme of collaboration, he stated, “The way forward requires collective effort. Let us share best practices, address challenges, and prioritize student well-being.”
Student Support Officers from various campuses presented comprehensive reports, highlighting their 2024 accomplishments and plans for the coming year. Key presentations included Mr. Moteka’s insights into financial aid opportunities, as well as a joint discussion by Mr. Mathebula and Ms. C. Phoku from Higher Health on academic health and wellness services. Miss Sikota presented the final 2025 Student Support Services Activity Plan, and the committee unanimously endorsed it.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The plenary concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Moteka, who commended the team’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the student experience. “Your tireless efforts will shape a brighter future for our students,” he remarked.
