Governance
The College Council governs Ehlanzeni TVET College under the Continuing Education and Training Act 16 of 2006, as amended by Act 1 of 2013.
The role of
College Council
The Council must perform all the functions, including the development of a College statute, which are necessary to govern the public College, subject to the Continuing Education and Training Act and any applicable national or provincial law.
With the concurrence of the Academic Board
The Council must:
- Develop a strategic plan for the College which incorporates the mission, vision, goals and planning for funding of the College
- Address past imbalances and gender and disability matters
- Include safety measures for a safe learning environment for students, lecturers and support staff
- Submit the strategic plan for approval by the Minister
- Determine the language policy of the College, subject to the approval of the Minister
- Ensure that the College complies with the accreditation requirements necessary to provide learning programmes in terms of standards and qualifications as registered on the National Qualifications Framework
Reporting to the Minister
The Council must report to the Minister on:
- The overall management and governance of the College
- The overall performance of students
- A duly audited set of Annual Financial Statements
The Council's main responsibilities
Apart from its normal governance and oversight roles, the Council must ensure that:
- The quality of teaching and learning is unquestionable, with good pass rates, and that the College is regarded as a Centre of Excellence
- There are formal relations with employers to ensure the relevance of the curriculum and the knowledge of lecturers, and to provide placement opportunities that enhance students' chances of finding formal employment
