The campus is a product of OR Thambo's hands. Then campus started in 1990 as an NGO known as Foundation for Education with Production (FEP) under the guidance of the Youth Education Trust.
It was a model of Botswana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe with accreditation from British O Level curriculum. The nature of the courses was half-day study and half-day practical work.
The student intake was mostly from SOMAFCO (Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College, from exile and the nearby community. The educators were seconded from the then GOUT with the understanding of Chief EJ Mabuza.
In 1994 after the general election it changed to State Aided college and the name Mthimba Community College came into being.
After the merger of the technical colleges in 2000-2001, it was named Mthimba campuses a campus of Ehlanzeni TVET College and currently has 568 students.
